Stearns tips PVHS in 2OT

HOWLAND – Steve Cyr scored 15 of his game-high 30 points in overtime Saturday to spark the Stearns Minutemen to their first victory of the season, a 79-76 double-overtime win over Penobscot Valley.

Travis Martin scored 14 points while Cory Kaul and Tyler Matthews tallied 10 each for Stearns of Millinocket.

Matt Cummings paced Penobscot Valley with 22 points. Andrew Hallett netted 18 before leaving the game with a broken wrist. Jake Crosby scored 14 points and Roch Lachance added 12.

Patriots’ Allen tops 1,000

At Lincoln, senior forward Jordan Allen scored 27 points, including the 1,000th of his career, as Penquis of Milo held off Mattanawcook Academy for its 10th straight win.

Allen made 9 of 11 free throws, and scored 21 points in the second half as Penquis maintained the lead. Devin Perkins added nine points.

Freshman Derek Libbey led MA with 11 points, while Steve Andrews scored nine.
