Garland man arrested after fight at his home

State police arrested a Garland man late Sunday night after a fight he had with friends at his home.

Charles Michaud, 35, was charged with violation of conditions of release and also summoned for assault, Maine State Police Trooper Paul White said Monday.

White, Trooper Douglas Franklin and Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy James Kennedy were called to the Corinth Road residence shortly after 10 p.m. for a report of a fight. The fight was over when White arrived, but he said the friends had some minor injuries. None of the friends required a trip to the hospital.

Michaud had been drinking, according to police.

No one else has been charged, although White said the incident is still under investigation.

When a Bangor police officer caught up with a vehicle that had been doing 74 mph on Union Street late Sunday night, he found no one in the driver’s seat.

One passenger remained inside the vehicle while another was just getting out as Officer Steve Jordan pulled up.

The driver, he found, was hiding behind a car he had pulled up next to moments earlier.

Driver Chad Payne, 19, admitted to driving 75 mph, although Jordan’s radar caught his speed at 74 mph. Payne had a temporary license and as such was required to have a passenger at least 20 years old with him.

Jordan charged Payne with criminal speed and with an interim license violation.

Two touring snowmobiles were stolen from an Odlin Road business over the weekend, Bangor police reported. Whoever took them got in through a hole in the fence and apparently had a vehicle waiting to carry them away. Bangor police Officer Dennis Lally reported that the snowmobile tracks ended at a snowbank. The stolen snowmobiles were worth an estimated $10,750.

A Second Street man reported to Bangor police Monday that someone broke into his apartment the night before, as he was sleeping, and stole an estimated $1,000 in property.

The man told Officer Paul Colley that the theft occurred between 9 and 10 p.m. Sunday and that cash, prescription drugs and other items were taken. The door showed signs of tampering, according to the police report.
