AUBURN – A jury was selected Monday in Androscoggin County Superior Court for the second manslaughter trial of a Lisbon Falls woman accused of shaking her 21-month-old son to death two years ago.

Sarah Allen’s first trial last June ended in a mistrial when jurors failed to agree on a verdict after 18 hours of deliberations.

Defense and prosecution lawyers agreed Monday on a panel of eight women and six men for the retrial.

Testimony will begin Tuesday after opening statements by the two sides.

Allen, 30, is charged in the February 2003 death of her son, Nathaniel, who prosecutors said was shaken with such force that he suffered a severe brain injury. The defense said the toddler died of an undiagnosed neurological disorder.
