BAR HARBOR – Following the success of its “Paddle Art!” auction last year, the Abbe Museum is again inviting artists to submit a proposal for transforming canoe paddles into works of art. The paddles will be exhibited at the Abbe during the summer and sold at a benefit auction on Aug. 2 at the Bar Harbor Club.
To participate, artists are asked to submit a proposal to the museum by March 1 with a one-page description or sketch of the image or theme they plan to convey and the materials to be use. Forty artists will be chosen for the project.
Artists will be notified of the selection by March 8. Each participating artist will be provided with an unfinished, 57-inch white ash paddle and a $50 stipend for materials by March 15. The deadline for returning the paddles to the Abbe will be May 20.
