Bowdoin men hold off Husson, stop Eagles’ winning streak at 15 games

BRUNSWICK – Kyle Petrie’s 3-pointer ignited a key 7-0 second-half scoring run Tuesday night as Bowdoin College held off Husson College of Bangor for a 75-73 men’s basketball victory, halting the Eagles’ winning streak at 15 games.

Petrie posted a double-double for Bowdoin of the New England Small College Athletic Conference with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Andrew Hippert racked up 20 points.

The Polar Bears play at Amherst in a Saturday NESCAC quarterfinal game.

Tyler Muzzy led four players in double figures with 25 points for Husson of the North Atlantic Conference. He also had 10 rebounds.

Andy Frost tossed in 15 points, Jason Harvey added 13 and Buddy Leavitt posted 10.

The Eagles begin their league playoffs next Tuesday night.

Drew Cohen also added 20 points for the winners while Michael Westbrooks put in 11 and Nick Farrell had 10. Each player had five assists.

Brandon Hall paced MMA with 22 points and seven rebounds. Neil Stewart contributed 14 points and B.J. Dunlap added 10.

At Gorham, Mike Francoeur had 20 points, six assists and three steals to lift the University of Southern Maine to the narrow win over Plymouth State.

Jason Levecque also had 20 points and three steals for the Huskies and Bill Hardwick had 16 points and eight rebounds. Ryan Garland had 10 points, seven assists and three steals and Jesse McKinnell added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Nick Pelotte led Plymouth State with 25 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. Andreas Pope had 23 points and nine rebounds. Mark Dunham scored 12 points and Kevin Boutilier added 10.
