While entertaining you for the third year during its Cool Caf?, members of the Brewer Hometown Band will be remembering one of its own, the late Byron “Buddy” Chappelle, 69, of Old Town, who died Feb. 8 in a Boston hospital after a brief illness.
BHB director Jan Cox wrote that “musicians in the area were saddened to learn of the death of one of our outstanding colleagues. Buddy Chappelle was an institution in the music field. He performed with the Bangor Band and Brewer Hometown Band as well as providing the dance beat for many gigs throughout the state. We in the Hometown Band will remember him for his lively enthusiasm, steady beat and ‘the Stars and Stripes’ forever. The angels have a new drummer in the heavenly band.”
The Cool Caf? is part of the Penobscot River Winterfest activities that will be held at the Brewer Auditorium, Cox said.
The event is free, and Dunkin’ Donuts will provide “coffee, hot chocolate and munchies,” she added.
“Come on in and keep warm while the snow sculptures and ice carvings are being created. We’re hoping for a great crowd to hear our fine musicians.”

Once again, snow caused cancellation of last Thursday’s Healthy Hancock Lose and Win weekly meeting.
However, Iris Simon wrote, the Victory Stick, given the team averaging most pounds lost for Week 6, “will be delivered to The Biggest Losers at Jackson Laboratory” in Bar Harbor.
Runners-up were Mount Desertlesses, Just You Weight, Downsizers, Downsizers 11, Life Stylers and Broad Broads.
At the halfway point of the 10-week challenge, the 51 participating teams have lost 2,450 pounds.
Barring unforeseen interruptions from Mother Nature, Schoodic Slims and Waist Aways will host Healthy Hancock’s Lose and Win Week No. 7 program at 5:45 tonight in the gymnasium of Gouldsboro Community Center on Pond Road.
Cheryl Rubin will address “Your Emotional Relationship with Food,” and Justice Barnes will speak about “Aerobic and Cardiovascular Fitness.”

From Jill Reynolds of Eastern Maine Charities comes word that the University of Maine men’s basketball team is challenging sports fans to fill Alfond Arena for its game with the University of Vermont at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, on the Orono campus.
UMaine is partnering with Children’s Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems so that 50 percent of the proceeds from the game’s ticket sales will benefit CMN.
To help meet this goal, and to help fill Alfond Arena, a special group rate of $5 per ticket is available for groups of 15 or more.
If purchasing fewer than 15 tickets, the price is $10 per ticket.
Teams, organizations, family members, you name it: Form a group and get a reduced ticket price while helping CMN.
For tickets, call the Alfond Ticket Office, 581-2327 or (800) 756-TEAM, and mention CMN when you call.
