MONROE – The sale of pottery manufacturer and retailer Monroe Salt Works to a New Hampshire-based firm, announced in November, has fallen through.

Monroe Salt Works, founded in the Waldo County town of Monroe 33 years ago by Ron Garfinkle, had negotiated a sales agreement with Tawinbi Co., Inc. based in Keene, N.H.

“After long negotiations, the two companies were not able to come to terms,” Monroe Salt Works reported in a statement issued Thursday.

Monroe Salt Works will continue to manufacture in Monroe under Garfinkle’s ownership.

Retail stores in Ellsworth, Belfast, Lincolnville Beach, and Boston and Arlington, Mass., will also continue to be operated by the business.
