I can’t understand why Gov. Baldacci continues to support the construction of a dangerous and ugly liquefied natural gas tank farm on Sipayik property at Pleasant Point. His support is in direct opposition to the wishes of the vast majority of Down Easters who would be affected by an LNG terminal.

I can’t understand why he opposes having a lovely hotel and casino on the same site overlooking beautiful Passamaquoddy Bay.

If constructed, an LNG terminal would employ only a handful of security guards, while a hotel and casino would offer permanent employment and well-paying jobs to dozens of local residents, as well as being a tourist attraction for the area.

I can’t understand Baldacci’s proposal for Sunday hunting, either. I always thought Sundays during the hunting season were for the majority of us who enjoy the autumn foliage instead of the kill.

Sunday is the one day of the week that folks can gather some wood, or take the kids for a hike through the leaves without the chance of looking down a gun barrel. Why do the woods need to be reserved for the privileged few for seven days out of seven?

If Baldacci really wants to save some money he can abolish the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife altogether and turn the job over to the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. I’m sure SAM would be glad to keep on running that department for nothing as it currently does.
