Hatfield powers Valley past Bucks

AUGUSTA – Eric Hatfield poured in 19 points to lead the No. 3 Valley Cavaliers to a 76-32 Western Maine Class D basketball quarterfinal win over the No. 6 Buckfield Bucks Saturday.

Travis Pullen added 12 for the winners of Bingham, Mark Hyland had 10 and Craig Rich had nine.

Jared Martin led Buckfield with nine points.

At Old Town, Logan Bouchard notched 16 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter to lead Old Town by Nokomis of Newport.

Corey Emerson added 15 points and seven assists, while Travis Shaw had 10.

Chris Dunlap scored 16 and Tyler Norris had 12 for Nokomis.

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, Aaron Buzzell made 30 saves to shut out the Blue Devils.

Dylan George, Ben Estabrook, Jason Eremita and Nick Payson each scored for the Rams.

Lewiston’s Nick Langlais made 28 saves on 30 shots.

At Ingersol Arena, Auburn, Reed McLaughlin scored an overtime goal with assists coming from Ben Caldwell and Matt Grimes to give the Witches the victory.

Grimes and Caldwell each netted goals of their own. Caldwell and Jake Richter had an assist apiece for 13-6 Brewer. Jimmy Nicknair faced 27 shots, stopping 25.

Brad Wenzel and Kevin Ponthbrand each scored once for 9-11 Edward Little of Auburn. Corey Lame and Dustin Nadeau had the assists. Kris Bennett saved 21 of 24 shots.

Orono 8, John Bapst 1

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, John Tuell scored two goals and recorded two assists as the Red Riots skated by the Crusaders.

Sean Bryant and Tony Raymond also scored two goals apiece and Raymond also made an assist for the winners.

Mark Cloutier and Nathan Michaud contributed a goal and two assists each. Luke Estes and Nathan Curtis had assists for 16-3-1 Orono. Jared Buzzell saved 23 of 22 shots he faced, while David Edgley stopped all three to come his way.

Brian Leighton scored off an assist from Zac Greenier for 5-14 John Bapst. Nate Kuneman made 24 saves on 32 shots.
