On Feb. 18, I read another poorly researched column from Cal Thomas (ostensibly on the new “strain” of HIV, but actually his distorted ranting about male homosexuality) that once again reflects his ill-informed and bigoted view of the world. His columns are not so much political commentary as they are social commentary from the perspective of the religious far right.
Surely there is an affordable, conservative columnist who can replace Cal Thomas in the Bangor Daily News. While I rarely agree with George Will (as an example of another syndicated columnist), I respect his opinions (always well-researched, and presented in a scholarly fashion). I learn from him.
On the other hand, I cannot remember a single instance where Thomas has provided new insight, or helped me understand the point of view of those with whom I disagree. He does not belong in the BDN (or any other balanced publication).
