An Exeter woman appeared in two different courtrooms Thursday to plead innocent to accusations that she took more than $300,000 from her former employer.

Cecelia G. White, 40, appeared in the afternoon in Hancock County Superior Court in Ellsworth, where she pleaded innocent to a theft charge.

She was indicted earlier this month by a grand jury for allegedly taking money from Surry forester David Warren, for whom she worked as a part-time, independent bookkeeper.

District Attorney Michael E. Povich said White generated checks on her computer and cashed them without Warren’s knowledge for almost two years before her employer discovered the money was missing.

On Thursday morning, White appeared in Penobscot County Superior Court in Bangor, where she pleaded innocent to a charge of negotiating a worthless instrument. Investigators said she bounced checks from the personal account, into which she allegedly deposited the embezzled funds.
