Thorne, 8, energetic and polite

Thorne is a charming boy with many strengths. He has a great deal of energy and charm and possesses a unique smile and expressive blue eyes.

Thorne, 8, is engaging, curious and very polite. He has a great desire to please his caregivers and relishes the praise he receives from them and others. His new family will have to be supportive of ongoing contact between Thorne and his sister.

Since entering the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services, Thorne has had several placements. He has been in his current placement for more than two years. He has made tremendous progress while in his current placement because of his foster family’s perseverance, patience and love.

Thorne is very attached to his current foster family, and his prospective adoptive family will have to be very supportive of his emotional needs throughout his transition from foster care to adoption.

Thorne truly enjoys the outdoors and likes to swim and bike. Other time is spent playing video games and participating in activities with his foster family. He likes to help out around the house, especially working on projects with his foster father. Thorne also likes to have his foster mother read to him.

Thorne has made significant gains in his school environment. He receives minimal support from the school’s resource room staff, is a great reader and enjoys reading by himself or to others. While his handwriting can be a challenge, Thorne is working hard at improving in this area and puts forth a great deal of effort in his schoolwork.

Thorne can be easily distracted when doing a task and can be impulsive in his decisions and actions both at school and at home. He needs continual reminding and redirection with everyday tasks. Medication helps Thorne better manage his anxiety and everyday stresses. He is accepted by his peers and does well with them.

Thorne needs consistency of routine and a structured, predictable home environment with parents who can provide him with unconditional love and a sense of belonging.

Thorne would be most successful in a two-parent family where he would be the youngest child by several years, as he thrives on adult attention. A single-parent family with adequate supports also will be considered.

Adoption subsidy is available for the most appropriate family.

Thorne is one of 207 Maine children in Maine DHHS care who are seeking an adoptive family. For information about Thorne or other children available for adoption, please contact A Family for ME at (877) 505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
