WINDSOR – A Windsor woman died of smoke inhalation and her husband suffered burns during a fire at their farmhouse Sunday night.

Elyse Laplante-Ellis, 44, died while being taken to an Augusta hospital after the 11 p.m. fire at the home on Beehive Road where she lived with her husband, Cameron, officials said.

The house was filled with smoke when Laplante-Ellis and her husband were awakened, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Public Safety Department. Her husband made it out, but she had to be rescued from a second-floor window, McCausland said.

Cameron Ellis suffered burns to his hands and smoke inhalation, McCausland said.

Fire investigators have determined the blaze started in an attached barn, he said.
