BANGOR – An Etna man whose wife sought help from police after she found marijuana in a hall closet pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a federal firearms violation.
Michael Frappier, 42, waived indictment in U.S. District Court to a charge of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.
A sentencing date has not been set.
He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Frappier was convicted in 1989 of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and in 1991 of eluding a police officer, which prohibited him from having guns and ammunition.
His wife in January told deputies at the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department that she had found a box of marijuana and a bag containing plant stalks in a closet while putting away Christmas decorations.
She gave law enforcement officials permission to search the home.
A shotgun, a rifle and ammunition were found in the bedroom, according to court documents.
Frappier was arrested on Jan. 4. He remains free on $5,000 cash bail. Conditions include having no contact with his wife.
