STONINGTON – A 22-year-old Deer Isle man was arrested Thursday night after he led police on a brief chase through Stonington, police said.
Christopher M. Robbins was charged with eluding police, driving while his license was suspended and violating the conditions of his release.
At about 8:30 p.m., Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Lepper stopped a vehicle with a defective exhaust on Route 15. As he got out of his cruiser and approached the vehicle, the driver sped off, he said.
Lepper pursued the driver for about three minutes but lost sight of the vehicle on Sand Beach Road. He went to the home of the person to whom the vehicle was registered and found the vehicle parked behind the residence, he said.
Deputy Chris Thornton and Maine State Police Trooper Tom Pickering also responded to the scene. All three officers entered the residence and found Robbins inside. He was taken into custody and taken to the Hancock County Jail, where he remained Friday morning.
Police said Robbins was out on bail for a previous incident in which he was charged with failing to stop for a police officer.
