Argument at Orono club ends with double stabbing

An argument at Ushuaia in Orono late Saturday night ended with a double stabbing.

Orono police officers found that Jonathan Gardiner, 18, of Glenburn allegedly had stabbed one juvenile boy in the inner forearm and Jeffrey Marshall, 19, of Albion in the stomach.

The argument reportedly took place over a girlfriend, Officer Scott Wilcox said. The fight happened in the enclosed patio area of the club.

Both victims were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where they were given stitches for their wounds and released.

Gardiner, who suffered a cut during the fight, was treated then taken to Penobscot County Jail. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated reckless conduct. Gardiner was also in violation of his probation conditions.

Marshall was charged with assault and issued a summons for his role in a dispute that took place outside the club just before the stabbings.

Marshall had slipped on the ice and thought that Tyler Prendergast, 20, of Glenburn was talking about him because of the slip. Marshall took off his belt and allegedly hit Prendergast in the face with the belt buckle.

Prendergast had visible signs of being assaulted but was not taken to the hospital.

A Bangor officer who investigated an accident on State Street hill at 1 a.m. Saturday found that a Bangor woman had celebrated her birthday with too much gusto and a parked Dodge Durango had paid the price.

According to police reports, Deborah Wilcox, 46, told the investigating officer that she had driven a 1998 Subaru Legacy into the parked car. She also told the officer that she had been drinking to celebrate her birthday.

Wilcox flunked field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.20 percent, more than twice the legal limit.

She was issued a summons for operating under the influence and a traffic ticket for failing to produce evidence of insurance.

A Ford pickup truck speeding at 45 mph in a 25 mph zone Friday night in Bangor was piloted by a man without a valid driver’s license but with a bad temper, according to police reports.

Mathew Pimental, 25, was stopped by officers who soon discovered that his license was suspended. When they informed the Garland man, he allegedly became very angry and began to yell at the officers. He left his truck and began walking toward the officers, who ordered him to return to his truck several times. When he refused and appeared to bump one officer with his arm, he was placed under arrest.

Pimental resisted arrest and tried to spin away from the officers. Police then brought Pimental to the ground in order to gain control over him, but the struggle continued. Finally, officers managed to put handcuffs on him.

Pimental allegedly apologized and told officers that he knew he had a very bad temper.

He was searched and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he was charged with operating after suspension and refusing to submit to arrest.
