Bowdoin College of Brunswick, Bates College of Lewiston and the University of Southern Maine of Gorham all advanced to the NCAA Division III women’s basketball “Sweet 16” with second-round victories Saturday.
The Polar Bears handled Alvernia College (Pa.) 69-46, the Bobcats downed Emmanuel College of Boston 83-64 and the Huskies edged Ithaca College (N.Y.) 55-53.
USM has been named a host site for the Sectionals (Rounds 3 and 4) and will entertain Bates on Saturday.
Bowdoin travels to the University of Scranton, where it will play William Smith (N.Y.) on Saturday.

At Brunswick, second-ranked Bowdoin won its 55th straight home game while clinching its fifth consecutive Sweet 16 appearance.
Eileen Flaherty paced the winners with 25 points and nine rebounds, while Justine Pouravelis provided 14 points and seven rebounds and Marisa Berne added 11 points. Benton’s Erika Nickerson chipped in with six points and nine rebounds.
Berne hit two 3-pointers and a layup during a 10-0 first-half run that put the Polar Bears in charge. Bowdoin outrebounded Alvernia 51-33.
Kacie Androsko led Alvernia with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Stephanie Cleary paced Ithaca with 18 points and seven rebounds.
