Elegant desserts and delightful entertainment await all who attend Waldo County General Hospital’s ninth annual Dessert Cabaret when doors open at 5 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Belfast Area High School.
Entertainment, featuring hospital family and friends, begins at 7 p.m. and while no admission is charged, donations are greatly appreciated.
During intermission, you might win a cash prize if you participate in a 50-50 raffle for $1 a ticket or $5 for an arm’s length of tickets.
Volunteer masters of ceremonies will be Dr. Terrance Smith and Dr. Paul Stewart. Among those making return appearances in this very fun event are dancers Elaine Gray and Hillary Hoyt, singers Roger Rolands, Laura Campbell and The Dudley Family.
New acts include Donna & the Shoretts, a bit by members of the surgical services staff, and a skit featuring local students.
Three people will receive makeovers from staff of the Lisa Nichols Salon.
WCGH community relations coordinator Sandra Gordon wrote last year’s event raised a record $2,200.
“Most of that amount will be donated to the city of Belfast,” she explained, “which has asked us to be a co-sponsor of a fitness trail in the city park.”
Proceeds from this year’s fund-raiser will support WCGH community wellness outreach activities such as free health screenings, exercise classes and the Waldo County Family Wellness Fair.
With elegant deserts provided by health care staff, and drinks, hot dogs, popcorn and snacks provided by the human resources department, there will be something for everyone to eat and, with so much volunteer participation from so many community members, something for everyone to applaud.
According to Sharon Bray of Orland, donors, American Red Cross workers and volunteers “can hardly wait” for the Orland Fire Department Blood Drive, “because we feed them so well.”
And for free, she added.
The OFD Blood Drive is 2-7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the OFD on School House Road, just off U.S. Route 1.
“Inspired by drive organizer Kathie Conary and others who believe in community service,” Bray wrote, “Orland volunteers bring in Texas beans to go with hot dogs,” and “others provide baked goods,” creating quite “a feast for a really good cause.”
Kay Hyatt reminds residents of Old Town and Orono that The Animal Orphanage annual Phone-A-Thon is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 12.
Conducted with the assistance of MBNA, volunteers will seek pledges to support the no-kill shelter’s spay-neuter fund.
Anyone wishing to make a donation but who is not contacted, can call a designated fund-raising line, 866-0753, or mail contributions to The Animal Orphanage, P.O. Box 163, Old Town 04468.
If you and your snowmobile are in a position to participate in this benefit, you will be helping many children and families.
Snowmobilers are invited to “Ride-In” for lunch to benefit the Eddington Pre-School Building Fund 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Lakeview Auctions in Eddington.
Selina Lufkin and Tracey Gideon are hoping that even if you aren’t a snowmobiler, you’ll come to lunch, since “all proceeds will go to help prepare the portable classroom for the incoming Class of 2019,” they wrote.
They want to help ensure Eddington’s preschool building is available for the little learners in their community because, “our children are our future.”
Admission is $20 per snowmobile.
More information can be obtained by calling Lufkin, 843-0210, or Gideon, 843-6232.
The fifth annual Affiliated Healthcare Systems Indoor Miniature Golf Tournament is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Eastern Maine Healthcare Mall, 925 Union St., Bangor.
For $15, teams of three will play the 19-hole course to benefit Children’s Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems.
Prizes will be awarded for the lowest overall team score, lowest all-male, lowest all-female and lowest mixed-team scores.
Last year’s event raised $2,000 and organizers hope to better that amount this year.
