EAST MILLINOCKET – The town Web site will get a new server, new life, new features and a new look, its new creator said Tuesday.
Ray Fraser of Fraser’s Trading Post & Taxidermy of Patten will revamp Eastmillinocket.org within the next few months, fixing its many broken links and adding features to it.
“I am hoping I can have something out in a few weeks,” Fraser said Tuesday.
The Board of Selectmen voted 4-0 Monday night to follow Fraser’s suggestion and switch site hosts from midmaine.com to Network Solutions of California. The switch will cost the town $119.50 an annual savings of $275, he said.
A member of the new town Economic Development Committee formed through the Millinocket Area Growth and Investment Council, Fraser and other committee members talked about reviving the site during a recent committee meeting.
The site was developed initially by Schenck High School’s Advanced Computer Applications Class, but has remained dormant for a long time. Most of the links on the site didn’t work when tried on Tuesday.
Fraser and the committee want the site to publicize East Millinocket and its offerings. He and his wife, Geri, plan to work with the committee to create several sections on the site, including places for town government, public safety, recreation, education, churches and civic organizations, and a photo gallery.
“I told them that we’re all going to work on it together and type it all up and drop it on the site,” Fraser said.
Selectmen were pleased with the economy of Fraser’s suggestion. Selectman Richard Nicholson said he looks forward to working with Fraser on the committee. Fraser said he plans to meet with selectmen to review the site and incorporate any suggestions they might have.
The new Web site also will come with 25 e-mail addresses that town officials can use, Fraser said. The photo gallery will feature shots taken by anyone who wants to post them. The shots will advertise East Millinocket businesses plus depict life and people in town, he said.
Fraser is not a professional Web site designer or Web master, but he and his wife did design their businesses’ site, fraserstradingpost.com, he said.
That site features pages for several Katahdin area businesses.
