LILY BAY TOWNSHIP- A Norridgewock snowmobiler was injured Friday when he was struck by another snowmobile after he lost control of his vehicle and was thrown onto the trail.

Darrin Nickerson, 40, was taken by ambulance to Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville, was treated for his injuries and released.

Nickerson had been northbound on Interconnecting Trail System 85 in the lead of a party of snowmobilers when he lost control of his snowmobile and it rolled over onto its side, according to Investigator Jamie Kane of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.

Nickerson, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown over the windshield of the vehicle and landed in the trail where he was struck by another snowmobile operated by Shane Clark, 23, of Winterport, Kane said.

Clark was unable to stop his snowmobile in time to avoid hitting Nickerson, the officer said.

Kane said Nickerson reportedly had a broken arm, bumps and bruises from the 10:30 a.m. accident. Clark, who also was wearing a helmet, was not injured.

Both Nickerson’s 2003 Polaris and Clark’s 2003 Ski-Doo had some damage, according to Kane.
