Corinth bank holdup investigation continues

CORINTH – Maine State Police report little progress over the weekend in the search for the man who held up the Corinth branch of the UnitedKingfield Bank on Thursday morning.

Trooper Marc Poulin of the Maine State Police said the investigation is proceeding despite not having much to go on.

“We’re continuing to check out the leads as they come in,” Poulin said Sunday afternoon.

Poulin, the lead investigator in the case, said the police have received about two dozen tips from residents. Most have been dead ends, he said, but some are still being followed up.

The robbery occurred about 10:30 a.m. Thursday while there were three employees and one customer in the small branch bank. A man entered the bank and presented the teller with a note demanding cash. Reaching into his pocket, the man indicated he was armed, although no weapon was actually seen. He left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Police are looking for a blue Jeep Cherokee that was seen leaving the area near the time of the robbery with two men inside, although Poulin said Sunday there’s no clear evidence that the vehicle is connected to the event.
