BANGOR – City councilors Monday night extended tentative developer status for a local developer who wants to build a residential housing complex on Grandview Avenue.

Don Kelly initially was granted tentative developer status in late December for 469 Grandview Ave., but that status expired on Monday.

During their regular meeting at City Hall, councilors voted to extend that status through May 23.

According to city documents, Kelly has been making progress on the project but asked for additional time to complete his plans.

Kelly plans to build 11 two-unit residential buildings. Five buildings, comprising 10 units, would be built on the city’s development site, and the rest on Kelly’s land at the corner of Grandview and Broadway.

In other business Monday, councilors:

. Authorized City Manager Edward Barrett to accept $1,430 in funds from a state criminal forfeiture.

. Approved an application to the Maine Forest Service for a $3,000 Project Canopy tree planting and maintenance grant.

. Amended the land development code to reduce minimum right-of-way width from 80 feet to 66 feet in smaller city subdivisions.

. Accepted and appropriated $226,752 in federal Department of Homeland Security funds to improve preparedness for and response to homeland security-related events. No local match is requirement.

The money will be used to buy such items as communication equipment, generators so that city schools can be turned into shelters if need be, and portable lighting equipment for use by police and fire personnel.
