Chico Hernandez, 51, of Washburn recently won a silver medal in the Vets division of the 2005 British Sombo Wrestling Championships held at Sittingbourne-Kent, England. Hernandez fought in the 96-kilogram (212-pound) open class after missing his natural weight class, 82 kilos, by a single kilogram.

Chico Hernandez, 51, of Washburn recently won a silver medal in the Vets division of the 2005 British Sombo Wrestling Championships held at Sittingbourne-Kent, England.
Hernandez fought in the 96-kilogram (212-pound) open class after missing his natural weight class, 82 kilos, by a single kilogram. He advanced to the semifinals before being defeated by nine-time defending British champion John Clarke, 33.
Hernandez placed fourth in the open division, but advanced to the final of the Vets division.
Hernandez is a member of the U.S. National Team representing the Army, and he currently is ranked fourth nationally in his class.
