AUGUSTA – Maine is one of only two states that allow their prison inmates to vote, and it looks like it will stay that way for a while.
A bill in the Legislature to revoke prisoners’ voting rights is dead. Similar bills to take away inmate voting rights have come up and been rejected in past sessions. The latest proposal, LD 147, was killed when the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee voted unanimously to leave Maine’s present policy alone.
