Islanders sailed through their annual town meeting Saturday, passing all of the proposed articles, as well as adding to the budget.
Town Administrator Alton Hadley said Tuesday that voters raised the Fire Department budget by $6,580 for gear; they added $500 for a donation to lobster research in the area’s fishing zone; $1,000 for the local historical society; and $2,000 for Mullin’s Head Park equipment, Hadley said.
The add-ons raised the total municipal budget to $1,085,515. That reflects a 9 percent increase over this year’s budget, he said.
The town’s share of SAD 7 and Knox County assessments are not yet known, Hadley said. The tax rate now is $12.70 per $1,000 of assessed value. The new tax rate will not be known until the school and county budgets are figured in, he said.
New town officers elected from the floor were: incumbent Selectmen Pat Curtis and Jon Emerson to three-year terms; Doreen Cabot and Cindy Page to three-year SAD 7 directors seats; and Kim Alexander for a five-year planning board position.
