BANGOR – The Bangor Chamber of Commerce has planned a reception and two pregame ceremonies Saturday centering around the final two Class A tournament basketball games to be played at the Bangor Auditorium.

The Eastern Maine Class A tourney is moving to the Augusta Civic Center next season after 50 years of tourney basketball at the Auditorium.

The Chamber has scheduled a pregame reception open to all past players of Class A basketball at the Bangor Civic Center from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Class A is the Maine Principals’ Association designation for big schools, which also used the designation of “L” in the 1950s and “LL” in the 1960s.

The final two games scheduled are the state boys final at 3:05 p.m. between Hampden Academy and Deering of Portland and the girls title game at 7:05 p.m. between Cony of Augusta and McAuley of Portland.

Before the boys game a recognition ceremony will be held for Hampden and Deering as well as for the 1955 Bangor and Old Town teams which played the first Class A game at the Auditorium in December of 1955.

The Cony and McAuley girls teams will also be recognized at 6:40 p.m. before their game.

Players from all the teams will receive pieces of the old Auditorium floor.
