I was pleased to see the Page One article on March 15 concerning long-distance care giving. Many families in Maine, including in our part of the state, are dealing with the care-giving stresses of trying to help a senior remain safely within their own home in the community.

Care giving “from away” often requires establishing relationships with providers and social service agencies in the community in which the loved one lives. Eastern Agency on Aging can help a long-distance care giver make the right connections with locally available resources to help a family member remain in their Maine community and to provide support to the care giver.

As many of us living in eastern Maine may become care givers ourselves to a family member out of our area or out of state, EAA can also help make connections with agencies nationwide through the network of Area Agencies on Aging. No family in Washington, Hancock, Piscataquis or Penobscot county should feel alone in care-giving experiences. We can help!
