Good for the Maine Genealogical Society for publishing “Family Records of Sumner, Maine” in the February issue of The Maine Genealogist, available at some libraries. Originally known as West Butterfield, the Oxford County town was incorporated June 13, 1798.

These records are not “contemporary” – in other words, they were recorded by family rather than chronologically, as they happened.

However, it’s helpful that the clerk included family information from before the town was settled, and it’s wonderful that the records usually include the mother’s maiden name. Families listed are:

A free lineage workshop will be offered at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at the Monson Community Room in Monson. All are welcome. The emphasis will be on Daughters of the American Revolution membership, a topic that will be of interest to genealogists.

3318. HINKS LANDING. Seeking information and photos of Hinks Landing and Hinks School in Bucksport. Has anyone done anything on old one-room schoolhouses or boat landings in that area?
