SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Former Bangor High School pitching star Matt Kinney was reassigned by the San Francisco Giants Monday to their minor league camp after struggling in three games with the Giants.
Kinney, a 6-foot-5 righthander, was used in relief by the Giants in three games. He pitched 3 2/3 innings with a 14.73 ERA while giving up eight hits, no walks and striking out two. He was hit hard by his former team, the Kansas City Royals, in a game on March 13 when he gave up back-to-back-to-back home runs by Aaron Guiel, Emil Brown and Ruben Gotay.
Kinney was picked up on waivers by the Royals from the Milwaukee Brewers in August last season. He finished the season with a 3-5 record and 6.06 ERA. He enjoyed his best season with the Brewers in 2003 when he compiled a 10-13 record with a 5.19 ERA after a 2-7 mark and 4.64 ERA with the Minnesota Twins the previous season.
The Giants signed Kinney to a minor league contract on Dec. 10, 2004.
