Head-on collision in Rockland leaves three injured

ROCKLAND – A Camden woman was rushed to a Bangor hospital after a head-on crash Tuesday on Old County Road.

Kassandra Madore, 19, was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to a Penobscot Bay Medical Center spokeswoman. A spokesman for the Bangor hospital was not able to confirm any details about Madore, including her condition, on Tuesday night.

Details of the 11:23 a.m. accident were still sketchy, said Deputy Police Chief Wallace Tower.

Madore and Travis Heal, 21, also of Camden, who was driving the vehicle Madore was traveling in, had to be extricated from the vehicle, Tower said. Heal was in stable condition at PenBay, the spokeswoman said.

Alice Shea, 32, of Tenants Harbor was in the other vehicle, Tower said. She was treated at PenBay and released, according to the hospital.

Heal was driving north on Old County Road when a vehicle in front of him began to stop or slow near the intersection of Rankin Street, Tower said. Heal apparently was trying to avoid rear-ending the vehicle, so he swerved.

Shea, who was heading south, hit her brakes hard and swerved to avoid Heal’s vehicle, but they collided head-on, Tower said.

Officer Lloyd Daniels investigated the accident, at which Rockland Fire and Emergency Medical Services rendered aid.
