Scientists and advocates will share their experiences sustaining Maine waterways at a stream and river summit scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center. Aram Calhoun, a professor of wetlands ecology at the University of Maine, will serve as keynote speaker, presenting her research on Maine’s seasonal vernal pools. Other workshops will include invasive species issues, stream ecology and pollution, wetlands, environmental monitoring, and techniques for working cooperatively with local businesses and governments. The fee for the daylong workshop is $15. Preregistration is recommended, and a registration form can be downloaded from www.MaineDEP.com.
