Roy Gardner, first selectman, and Joel Jackson, second selectman, were re-elected to their positions at the annual elections March 18. Frank McBreairty was elected third selectman with 57 votes, over Clayton McBreairty with 38 votes. Nola Begin was re-elected town clerk and treasurer with 71 votes for each office over Carola O’Leary who had 25 and 24 votes, respectively. Annie Paradis was re-elected tax collector without opposition.
About 30 residents took 25 minutes to approve a budget of $171,670 at the annual town meeting held Saturday, March 19. The budget does not include local education expenditures that will be voted upon at the annual SAD 10 meeting in June.
Begin said residents passed all articles as proposed to them by the Board of Selectmen.
Fort Kent
Voters will elect people to fill four municipal seats Monday, March 28. The only opposition is for one three-year seat on the Town Council. Patrick Plourde, a 12-year veteran of the position, is not seeking re-election. Seeking election to that position are Michael Dumond and Brian Thibeault.
Three seats on the SAD 27 board of directors have no opposition on the ballot. They are James O’Malley in Ward 2, Bertrand Michaud in Ward 7 and Joel Bossie in Ward 10.
The annual town meeting is also held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, in the Community High School gymnasium.
