A woman stopped early Thursday morning for speeding on Interstate 95 was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after police said they found a still-warm pipe inside her car.
Bangor police Officer James Hassard stopped Delia MacCabe, 36, of Alton shortly after 5:30 a.m. after he clocked her traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph-zone.
When Hassard approached the vehicle he could smell marijuana coming from inside, according to his police report. The woman initially denied any wrongdoing, but when the officer asked MacCabe about the marijuana smell she produced a small pipe from the seat next to her that Hassard noticed was still warm.
He asked MacCabe if she had smoked while she was driving and she said that she had. A search of her car also led Hassard to a plastic candy container that contained a small amount of marijuana, according to the report.
MacCabe was charged with possession but was not charged with operating under the influence.

A Bangor man reported Wednesday evening that someone took $7,000 in cash from his Sanford Street apartment.
The man – who told police that he moved to Maine from Oklahoma not long ago with his wife – claimed that the money came from a recent workers’ compensation settlement, according to Bangor police Officer Rob Angelo’s report.
The man was not at home during the alleged theft, but his wife was, and she told Angelo that the only person who had come into the apartment was a neighbor. The money reportedly was hidden inside the toe of a winter boot, the officer wrote.
Angelo spoke with the neighbor, who told the officer that he did not take any money and only was there to help the wife find it.
Angelo told the Sanford Street couple that stolen cash is difficult to recover. The man said he just wanted a police report filed so that he could take it to the Department of Health and Human Services and receive rental assistance.
