News in brief GUILFORD: PUPILS DONATE HAMS TO FOOD CUPBOARD

Twenty canned hams were donated on Tuesday by Guilford Primary School pupils to the Guilford food cupboard. The funds to purchase the hams came from the Margaret Chase Smith library in Skowhegan. Library officials, who learned that the pupils last month had raised $136 for tsunami victims, contacted the school and offered to match the amount for a charity of the pupils’ choice. Representing the school, pupils Belle Wingert, Noah Maki, Paul Ellis, Asia Wohlfeil, Tiia Kand and Terran Welcome, along with teacher Mark Arthurs, traveled to the library in Skowhegan recently, where the children read essays they had composed about helping others.
