SUPPLY AND DEMAND: The relocation of adoptable dogs reflects the economic law of supply and demand. Some places have a surplus, others not enough.
ROAD TRIP: It’s not unusual for a van load of dogs to travel 1,000 miles or more. They usually go from rural areas where many dogs run at large to shelters in cities and suburbs that have strong spaying and neutering programs.
RELOCATING CATS: Extremely rare. Most shelters have more cats than they can accommodate.
