A Bolling Drive resident called police Monday evening after he discovered a man who apparently was sleeping in the homeowner’s garage.
Bangor police Officer Dan Herring arrived at the home shortly after 10 p.m. and spoke with the owner, who led Herring to the garage.
When Herring opened the door, the officer found a man pretending to be asleep on the floor of the garage, a police report stated.
Herring wrote that he recognized the man – identified as Randolph Sands, 44, a transient – and ran his name through the Police Department’s system.
Sands, who had been drinking, the report said, had an outstanding warrant for failure to pay fines. The man was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.

A female student at the University of Maine reported Monday evening to public safety officials that she was assaulted as she walked back to her residence hall on Sunday.
The student told police that while she was making her way to Oxford Hall a male came up behind her and pushed her toward the exterior of one of the buildings, university spokesman Joe Carr said Tuesday. The student was able to twist free and run in the opposite direction.
The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday and, although it was still light outside, she did not get a good look at her alleged attacker, Carr said.
UM Public Safety officials will investigate the case, Carr added.
