BANGOR – Husson College junior shortstop Jason Harvey said he has spent a lot of time in the batting cage working on his swing lately.

It paid off on Tuesday as Harvey went 4-for-4, including a pair of doubles, to highlight a 17-hit attack that led the Eagles to a 13-3 win over Colby College at the Winkin Complex.

Husson will take a 6-9 record and a four-game winning streak into a Wednesday doubleheader against visiting Thomas College (1 p.m.).

“I’ve worked on driving the ball the other way. Today, I had two hits the other way and one up the middle. It has helped out quite a bit,” said Harvey who was the 2003 Sunrise Conference Rookie of the Year before spending last spring as the starting shortstop at the University of Maine.

Harvey, who hits second in the order, scored three runs and drove in a pair. Senior left fielder and leadoff man Aaron Brideau also scored three times and had a triple and two singles. Chris McInnis had three singles and two RBIs and Justin Spencer doubled and singled and knocked in a pair while also scoring twice.

“It helps if the top of the order gets on. Justin Spencer and [Sean] Brawn can drive us in all day,” said Brideau. “That’s basically our job and everybody else follows through.

“It’s good to come out after a couple of rainouts and make sure our bats are still fresh. We had good relief pitching and good starting pitching and that’s all we can ask for now,” Brideau added.

Sophomore righty Robert Webber hurled 5 2/3 productive innings of five-hit, two-run ball for Husson before James Gray, Sam Adolphsen and Jon Tefft finished up with 3 1/3 innings of two-hit, one-run relief.

Andy Carr tripled and doubled and scored all three runs for 0-11 Colby of Waterville. Robert Rosenbaum and Nick Spillane had two hits each with Rosenbaum having a double and three stolen bases.

Colby took a 1-0 lead on Spillane’s RBI single in the second but Husson reached starter and loser Sam Kennedy-Smith for four runs in the third to take the lead for good.

Adam Sheehan’s leadoff double over left fielder Greg Ortiz’s head and Brideau’s line-drive single to left tied it. Harvey was hit by a pitch and Spencer walked before Kyle Mathieu’s one-out RBI grounder to the shortstop hole delivered two runs when shortstop Rosenbaum made an errant throw to second.

McInnis’ fielder’s choice plated the final run.

Husson added another run in the fourth on Brideau’s two-out triple and Harvey’s fly-ball double down the right field line.

The Eagles iced it with six runs off reliever Robert Jacobs in the sixth courtesy of six consecutive hits. Harvey, Spencer, Mathieu and McInnis had RBI singles and Brawn doubled in a run. The other run scored on a passed ball.

Webber struck out three and walked four to pick up the win and said, “This wasn’t my best [outing] but I was definitely happy with the outcome and how I did considering it was my first time out up here and it was pretty cold.”
