New WBRC employees

WBRC Architects-Engineers has acquired two new employees. Sean Currier of Carmel has been hired as engineer technician in the firm’s land use studio. Currier is a 1997 graduate of the University of Maine with a bachelor’s in environmental science and natural resources. Previously, he was employed as a foreman with Maine Earth. He has previous experience with Sargent & Sargent and Photoscience Inc.

Timothy Stevens has been hired as an architectural intern in the firm’s education studio. He is a native of Turner and a graduate of Roger Williams University, Bristol, R.I. He holds a master’s degree in architecture and sculpture. He has worked for Hahnel Bros., done landscaping at Lincoln Park Casino in Rhode Island, and worked on a proposed shellfish hatchery at Roger Williams University.

Business breakfast

Brig. Gen. John W. Libby will speak about the role of the Maine National Guard in Iraq during the Husson College business breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursday, April 14, in Dickerman Dining Commons. Libby is the adjutant general of the Maine National Guard.

Donation from Target

Penquis Community Action Program recently received a $2,000 grant from Target Stores. The grant will support Little Bookworms, a lending library for families enrolled in the Penquis CAP Parents Are Teachers, Too program.

Parents Are Teachers, Too is a home visitation program that provides information, encouragement and support to first-time and teen parents of children 0-5 years in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. Little Bookworms will support early literacy efforts by providing families access to books, puppets, puzzles, felt boards and other items during home visits and parent groups.

“We are grateful to Target Stores for its support of area families,” said Sheri Smith, the program manager for Parents Are Teachers, Too. “This grant allows us to purchase materials that promote early literacy and parent-child bonding, helping parents to give their children the best possible start in life.”

The Penquis CAP Parents Are Teachers, Too program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Health, and is provided at no cost to first-time and teen parents. Services are available prenatally and until the child turns 5 years old.

Marketing seminar

The Society for Marketing Professional Services Maine Chapter will meet 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Sea Dog Banquet and Conference Center, 26 Front St. John Rohman, CEO of WBRC Architects-Engineers, will be the featured speaker. Patent basics seminar

A Patent Basics Seminar will be held noon-2 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Target Technology Center, 20 Godfrey Drive.

The seminar will provide inventors and technology-based businesses with education and advice on the basics of patent rights and protections. Participants also will learn how to conduct patent searches and gain a better understanding of the patent process.

The seminar is recommended for those who have an innovative product or process, whether already in business or planning to start a business. The seminar also meets the prerequisite for obtaining no-fee services from the Maine Patent Program.

The University of Maine’s Target Technology Incubator, the Maine Patent Program and the law firm of Eaton Peabody are sponsors of the seminar.
