‘Aladdin’ at Dedham School
DEDHAM – Dedham School pupils will perform a Broadway Junior production of “Aladdin” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 9, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the school, 2065 Main Road.
A resourceful young hero and wise-cracking genie will come to life in the stage in an adaptation of one of the most popular animated Disney films.
Taking leading roles in the production are Tristan Wortman as Aladdin; Sarah Adams, Jasmine; Doug MacDonald, Jafar; Matthey Seymour, Sultan; Katie Ward, Genie; Robyn Handley, Razoul; and Alec Wortman, Iago.
Other cast members are Courtney Benson, Ethan Handley, Ben Loiselle, Brittney Nickerson, Matthew Rice, Casey Tripp, Linley Wakeland, Catrina Worcester, Jennifer Campbell, Jonathan Deschaine, Brittany Ezell, Christian Frederick, Nicholas Hafford, Paige Hancock, Brooke McLaughlin, Megan Perkins, Jeremiah Smith, Melissa Smith, Parker Benson, Catey Bridges, Madison Campbell, Emily Carlson, Sarah Dickens, Kaitlin Drake, Ellen Hedefine, Rachel Lovely, Angalina Johnston and Kaitlin Smith.

Destination Imagination
ORONO – Come Saturday, nearly 700 elementary, middle and high school pupils from throughout the state will gather at the University of Maine for the state Destination Imagination Celebration.
The competition will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m.
The youths comprise 85 teams that have earned the right to perform in Orono by placing first or second at four regional tournaments in March.
First-place winner’s in the state competition will advance to the Destination Imagination Globals in late May at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Destination Imagination is Maine’s largest nonathletic after-school program. Pupils write the scripts, design the scenery and create the props for their performances.
National chess tournament
ORONO – Members of the state middle school champion chess team from Orono Middle School will attend the 2005 Supernationals III April 8-10 in Nashville, Tenn.
Coached by Joseph St. Pierre, the team also won the Penobscot Valley Middle League championship during the regular season.
Traveling to Nashville are: Gabe Borland, Darren Casey-Covell and Blake Eden, eighth grade; Henri Chai, Ari Dimoulas and John Robinson, seventh grade; and Avery Cole, Nikolai Renedo and Paul Robinson, sixth grade. Also members of the team are Conor O’Donnell and Thomas Gillette.

OLD TOWN – The Third annual Old Town High School JROTC Military Ball was held March 19 with more than 90 people attending. Under the direction of Cadet Lt. Col. Dustin Lemery, these cadets received awards: Cadet Lt. Ryann Grant, first place in marksmanship; Cadet Lt. Ann Vayda, first place in physical fitness.
Also, Cadets Capt. Katie Bartlett, Lt. Brendan Paradis, Lt. Seth Tillotson, 1st Sgt. Amanda Heath, 1st Sgt. Paul Leavitt, Sgt. Adam Smart, Staff Sgt. Merle Powers and Sgt. Larry Wilder received awards in the squad drill category.
Cadet Cpl. Joe Sayers earned the individual drill and review award.
The top company award for overall performance went to Alpha Company.
. Derek White, Simon Ferland and Tyler Costigan participated in the Regional Drama Festival. The Old Town play was runner-up, and Tyler Costigan was named to the All-Festival Cast.
. Alanna Mills and Ben Richard were chosen by the University of Maine Museum of Art for inclusion in the Museums by Mail Vincent A. Hartgen Traveling Exhibition Program. Under the direction of Art in the Heart of Maine, schools from all over the state competed, and only 100 pieces of art were selected. Richard’s entry was a self-portrait in colored pencil, and Mills’ winner was an abstract acrylic painting.
. Old Town High School’s chess team, under the direction of social studies teacher Paul Smith, attended the State Chess Championship at the University of Maine, sponsored by the UM engineering department. Finishing about in the middle of the mix were Randy Abbott, Mike Marquis, James Sanborn, Forrest Bush and Andy Mitchell.
. State Skills USA contests were held March 18 at United Technologies Center in Bangor. Gold medal winners from Old Town were Nick Smart, Sam Green, Travis Smith, Amanda Littlefield, Blake Mishou and Mike Trimm.
Silver medal winners were Korey Grant, Derek White, Andrew Mitchell and Jordan Holmes. Bronze medal winner was Dan Bard.

Mesa Hispanica
BANGOR – Mesa Hispanica will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Borders.
The group is organized by the Hermon High School Spanish Club in order to give area hispanophiles the opportunity to meet, converse in Spanish and share their experiences with hispanic cultures.
