Coaching awards

The Maine Track and Cross Country Coaches Association selected the following coaches as Coach of the Year in their respective sports at the annual association clinic on March 26:

. John Emerson, John Bapst Memorial High School, Bangor, Class B girls cross country.

. Chris Jones, Bucksport High School, Class C boys outdoor track.

. Bruce Pratt, John Bapst Memorial High School, Class C girls outdoor track.

Talented hockey players

ORONO – Three members of the Orono PeeWees have been selected to represent Maine at the Amateur Hockey Association’s New England Festival.

They are:

. Emily Trembley, Old Town.

. Catherine Drummond, Veazie.

. Maggie Lynn, Orono.

Selected based on their demonstration of hard work and dedication to the game of ice hockey, the girls also played for the Eastern Maine Girls House and Travel teams.

Catherine skated in Augusta last weekend. Emily and Maggie will skate April 8-10 in Burlington, Vt.

Banquet and auction

The Penobscot County Friends of the NRA will hold its sixth annual banquet and auction Saturday, April 30, at the Bangor Conference Center. Past banquet and auction proceeds provided funds to purchase rifles and equipment for junior small bore rifle teams, for the purchase of mobile skeet launchers used in shotgun instruction provided by a qualified NRA instructor for the Boys Scouts and other groups, and to provide local youngsters with scholarships to conservation camps.

Firearms, wildlife prints, jewelry and sculpture will be available for live and silent auctions, raffles and other gaming activities. NRA merchandise and donations from local community sponsors also will be available.

Paddling film series

ORONO – University of Maine Campus Recreation will sponsor a Spring Padding Film Series 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at 100 Neville Hall.

The series will feature films about paddling from around the world. The series is free and open to the public. Several of the films were selected as finalists at the National Paddling Film Festival in Lexington, Ky. The event also will include a brief presentation on the Run of River Project. Instructional T-ball

BANGOR – The Bangor Parks and Recreation Department will hold an instructional T-ball program 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 3-May 26, at the Union Street Athletic Complex. Lessons are for children age 5 and 6. The cost is $20 for Bangor residents, $30 for others.

Registrations will be taken in advance at the parks and recreation department and at the softball fields on Union Street when the program begins. For information, call 992-4490.

Mighty Mite soccer

BANGOR – The Bangor Parks and Recreation Department will offer Mighty Mite soccer for children age 2-6 and their parents from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, April 27-May 26, at the Union Street Athletic Complex. The cost is $15 for Bangor residents and $25 for others, and includes a T-shirt for the child.
