“Women and Children in Poverty: Is There No Sanctuary For Me?” is a program designed to help people become more aware of the needs and feelings of homeless people. It will be from noon to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 540 Essex St. Participants will discover through a role-play simulation how difficult basic survival can be for the homeless. After the simulation, the group will talk about the experience as well as area resources for the homeless. A representative from Spruce Run, the region’s domestic violence project, will offer a local perspective on the problem. Participants are asked to bring cleaning and laundry supplies to give to women in the project’s transitional housing program. Call Pastor Elaine Hewes at 945-3166 for information.
