Husson, St. Joe’s split Eagles record doubleheader sweep over UMF

STANDISH – Jason Harvey hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to help push Husson College to a 10-3 win over Saint Joseph’s and a split of their baseball doubleheader at Ward Field on Sunday. The Monks won the first game 4-0.

In the opener, Derek McIntosh hit a home run and scored three times for St. Joseph’s and Dan Enman added two singles.

Charlie Furbush gave up five hits, no walks, and one hit batsman while striking out 10 to earn the shutout win.

Kyle Mathieu and Chris McInnis each singled twice for Husson.

In the second game, Aaron Brideau doubled and singled and scored two runs for the Eagles. Justin Spencer and Bill Kane each had two singles.

McIntosh singled three times for the Monks and Furbush had a double and a single.

Husson sweeps UM-Farmington

At Bangor, Sean Brawn hit a home run and two singles to drive in three runs and lead Husson College to an 8-1 victory of the University of Maine at Farmington and a sweep of their college baseball doubleheader Saturday. The Eagles also won first game 7-3.

In the first game, Justin Spencer doubled home two runs for Husson and Aaron Brideau singled and scored two runs.

Justin Quimby hit a home run and single for two RBIs for UM-Farmington.

In the second game, Chris McInnis tripled and singled for the Eagles and Spencer had a double and a single with two RBIs.

Travis Rowell doubled for UM-Farmington and Matt Bray hit a RBI single.

Wheaton routs So. Maine

At Gorham on Sunday, Rob Cipolla had five hits, scored three runs and had three RBIs to pace a 21-hit Wheaton attack as the Lyons whipped the University of Southern Maine 16-2.

Keith Cooper added a double, three singles and four runs scored for Wheaton, which used a six-run first inning as the catalyst for its fifth straight win.

Brandon Brewer had a solo home run and an RBI single for Southern Maine.

Bowdoin sweeps Colby

At Waterville, Ricky Leclerc hit two home runs and a double to lead Bowdoin College to a 16-5 win in the second game of a NESCAC doubleheader Saturday. Bowdoin won the first game 17-1.

In the first game, Nick Lawler had two home runs and four RBIs for Bowdoin. Leclerc, Jared Lemieux and Chris McCann each homered.

Tyler Hales had two singles for Colby.

In the second game, Lawler had two doubles.

Nick Spillane hit a home run and a double for Colby.

Trinity sweeps Bates

At Lewiston, Jeff Natale hit two home runs and had four RBIs to lead Trinity College to a 7-2 win over Bates College in the first game Saturday. Trinity won the second game 14-1.

In the first game, Aaron Goldstein and Erik Paisley each doubled for Trinity. Ben Silvanic and Chandler Barnard each had two singles and an RBI.

Adam Worral singled twice with two RBIs and Eric Hood singled to knock in a run.

In the second game, Goldstein hit a home run and Andrew Fries had a double and three singles. Matt Stafford and Natale each singled three times.

Charlie Engasser hit a double and two singles for Bates and Brian Mahoney added two singles.

Thomas, Saint Joseph’s split

At Standish, Ryan O’Connor hit a grand slam and a single to help lead Thomas College to the 14-13 victory in the first game Saturday. Saint Joseph’s College took the second game 6-5.

In the first game, Scott Brawn and Jordan McDonald each hit a homer and a single to drive in two runs for the Terriers.

Derek McIntosh hit two home runs and knock in three runs for Saint Joseph’s College. Andrwe Divilinsky had a home run and Nick Arno hit three singles.

In the second game, McIntosh had a home run and a single with five RBIs for the Monks.

Brawn homered with two RBIs for Thomas. Lance Haynes and Tim Mercier each hit a solo home run.

Thomas sweeps Plymouth State

At Waterville, Jordan McDonald’s RBI single in the seventh inning lifted Thomas to a 7-6 win over Plymouth State in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.

Thomas won the second game 4-3 and is now 6-11.

In the first game, Scott Brawn cranked a solo home run for the Terriers and Jim Mercier added two doubles.

C.J. Rousseau led the 4-14 Panthers with three hits.

In the second game, pitcher Stefan Wrigley earned the victory for the Terriers and Ryan Rulman picked up a save.

Softball

Husson shuts out Wheelock twice

At Boston, Jordon Pruet hit two doubles and knocked in three runs to help Husson College earn a 12-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday. The Eagles won the second game 1-0.

In the first game, Taralee Webs had a double and a single with three RBIs for Husson and Carolyn McAvoy doubled and singled with an RBI.

Heather Modono doubled for Wheelock.

In the second game, Pruet had two singles and drove in the winning run for Husson. Shawna Bell and Nicole Manzo each doubled and singled.

Krystal Boss gave up just three hits and four walks through seven innings while striking out eight to earn the win.

Amy Arsenault doubled for Wheelock.

UMF sweeps Mount Ida

At Newton, Mass., on Sunday, the University of Maine at Farmington scored four unearned runs to earn a 4-0 victory over Mount Ida and a sweep of their North Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

The Beavers won the opener 8-0.

In the first game, UMF’s Lauren Stacey and Meagan Carmen combined to pitch a four-hit shutout. Mary Berry had two doubles, a single and four RBIs for the Beavers, while Sara Martin and Kelly McDonough each singled twice and Holly Tripp added a two-run double.

In the second game, Stephanie Moriarty pitched a three-hitter for UMF, while Martin and Kristy Cochin each had a pair of singles

Saint Joseph’s, Brandeis split

At Waltham, Mass., Darcy Lee hit three singles to lead St. Joseph’s College to a 5-3 first-game win over Brandeis University on Sunday. Brandeis won the second game 6-2.

In the first game, Deb Drown had two singles and scored two runs for the Monks and Helene Liaci singled home a run.

Kaitlin Streilein hit a double and two singles for Brandeis.

In the second game, Streilein homered to knock in three runs for Brandeis and Jenna Olem had three singles with two RBIs. Elissa Glucksman and Brianne Smith each had two singles.

Lee had three singles and an RBI for St. Joseph’s.

Tufts sweeps Bates

At Lewiston on Sunday, Tufts opened its NESCAC softball schedule with a 4-1, 6-3 doubleheader sweep of host Bates College at Spicer Field.

In the first game, Tufts pitcher Sarah Conroy scattered four hits and allowed just one unearned run. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored two runs for the Jumbos, who took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the third inning. Alex Bethel had two hits for Bates, while Bobcats’ pitcher Sarah Klenakis pitched a four-hitter.

In the second game, Tufts took the lead for good at 3-1 with two runs in the top of the fourth that came home on a squeeze bunt and a sacrifice fly. Erin Foye and Kyla DeCato had two hits each for Bates.

Husson, Lasell split

At Newton, Mass., Nichole Manzo and Carolyn McAvoy each singled and drove in a run to help lead Husson College to the 2-1 win over Lasell College in the opener on Saturday. Lasell won the second game 3-2.

In the first game, Shawna Bell and Krystal Bosse each singled for the Eagles.

Rachel Berry hit an RBI single in the fourth inning for Lasell.

In the second game, Sarah Armstong doubled and singled for Lasell. Nicole Bucciero and Jayme Rautenburg both had RBI singles.

Bell doubld and singled to knock in two runs for Husson and Bosse singled.

Southern Maine sweeps Colby

At Waterville, Kristin McGovern scored both runs in the opener to lead the University of Southern Maine to the 2-1 win over Colby on Sunday. The Huskies also won the second game 1-0.

In the first game, Christen Lachapelle drove in McGovern for the game-winning run in the sixth inning for Southern Maine. Catarina Riitano also had an RBI.

Melissa Henderson struck out eight and walk one in the victory.

Amanda Roehn allowed just one hit and two runs while striking out five for Colby.

In the second game, McGovern scored the winning run on an RBI single by Riitano. Kim Lipman hit a double.

Elizabeth Riley doubled for Colby.

UM-Farmington sweeps Lesley

At Cambridge, Mass., Brandi Rideout hit two doubles to help lead the University of Maine at Farmington to the 8-0 win in the opener against Lesley University on Saturday. UM-Farmington also won the second game 5-2.

In the first game, Cynthia Ravinski doubled and singled for UM-Farmington. Kristi Cochin and Sara Martin each had two singles.

In the second game, Ravinski had three singles for UM-Farmington and Renee Trafton doubled and singled with two RBIs. Kelly McDonough had two singles.

Maureen Mikos doubled for Lesley.

At Newton, Mass., John Lightbrown and Vincent Pizzimenti each had two goals and two assists to lead Mount Ida College past Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday.

P.J. Matthews and Charles Caughman each had two goals and one assist for 2-4 Mount Ida and Richard Aurelio added two goals. Matt Ramieor and Brendan Kelly had a goal and an assist. Anthony DiMaio scored a goal as Kyle Bowler and Bryan Smith combined to make 32 saves on 37 shots.

Luke McPartlin led 2-2 Maine Maritime with two goals. Brandon Hamilton, Nate Olehowski and Nate Dennen each scored a goal. Jake Forgit had an assist and Roscoe Bishop made 16 saves on 29 shots.
