Ashley MacDonald

University of New England women’s lacrosse player Ashley MacDonald has been chosen Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. MacDonald, a first-year midfielder won the award for the second consecutive week after racking up 23 points (16 goals and seven assists) in four UNE victories. She leads the team with 30 goals and 16 assists.

Emily Nelson

Bowdoin’s Emily Nelson was named New England Small College Athletic Conference’s Softball Player of the Week. She earned three victories and a save as the Polar Bears went 4-1 last week. Against Trinity she struck out 14 batters and allowed only three hits. In a doubleheader against Wesleyan, the sophomore earned both wins including a nine-inning shutout. In 23 innings, Nelson struck out 34 batters.

Curt Smith

Maine’s Curt Smith was honored as America East Baseball Rookie of the Week. Smith led the Black Bears with a .444 batting average in five games this past week. His eight hits were a team-high on the week and he scored a run in three of the five games. The rookie infielder hit his first career triple in Maine’s 4-3 win over Central Connecticut and also stole two bases on the week and is second on the team in stolen bases this season.
