Choral concert a highlight of BSO season

ORONO – Music Director Xiao-Lu Li will conduct the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and special guests for the fifth classical concert in the series at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Maine Center for the Arts, University of Maine.

The University of Maine Singers and University of Maine Oratorio Society will join the orchestra for Beethoven’s “Mass in C major,” and Thompson’s “The Testament of Freedom.”

Beethoven’s “Mass” will feature Jane Ohmes, soprano; Judith Engel, mezzo-soprano; Neal Harrelson, tenor; and Zheng Zhou, baritone. Ohmes, Engel and Zhou will be remembered for their performance of Verdi’s “Requiem” in 2003.

Advance ticket prices range from $13 to $38 and may be reserved online or by calling the Bangor Symphony Orchestra box office at 942-5555.

The “Springing” Dinner Auction follows the concert at 5 p.m. at Wells Commons on the UMaine campus.

Currently up for bid is a 2005 Subaru Outback, courtesy of Stanley Subaru in Ellsworth. Bid sheets are available online or at the Bangor Symphony box office at 51A Main St., Bangor. Also up for bid are two pairs of round-trip tickets to the contiguous 48 states and the Caribbean from American Airlines. Items for dining, outings, pampering, shopping and more also will be available.
