Local teen volunteers in Costa Rican village

BANGOR – Bangor High School student Rachel Wiseman participated in a World Horizons International community service trip to Palmares, Costa Rica, last summer. As a member of a group of nine students, she contributed some 120 hours of service to the village.

While living in Palmares for four weeks, she set up and ran day-camp activities for Palmares children and helped paint the school building. World Horizons International provided materials for the project.

On weekends, Wiseman and other students in the group explored Costa Rica’s rain forests, local markets and coastal areas.

Established in 1986, World Horizons organizes programs in Costa Rica, Fiji, Iceland, Mexico, Dominica, Canada, Maine and Utah. The focus of the trips is community service, cultural immersion and language development. The programs are open to students age 14-18. Applications are being accepted for this summer. Some scholarships are available. For more information, call (800) 262-5874 or visit www.world-horizons.com.
