LaGrange pitches Husson past Colby

WATERVILLE – Alicia LaGrange pitched a five-hitter and didn’t allow an earned run Thursday as Husson College of Bangor earned a 2-1 softball victory over Colby College.

Deanna Maxim and Rachel Wing each scored runs in the third inning for 12-6 Husson College. Shawna Bell hit an RBI single and Nicole Munroe delivered a sacrifice fly for the Eagles in the inning.

Mollie Puskar scored on an RBI triple by Essie Widlanski for the 6-9 White Mules.

Wentworth sweeps Thomas

At Boston, Sara Stone’s RBI single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning of the second game helped Wentworth Institute of Technology earn a doubleheader sweep over Thomas College of Waterville.

The hosts won the nightcap 4-3 and took the opener 9-7.

In the first game, Diane Piersali scored three runs, while Jen LaChapelle scored twice and drove in two runs for the Leopards.

Charlee Hayes had three singles and an RBI for Thomas. Nicole Smith and Kayla Beaudoin each added two singles.

In the second game, Aimee Deltgen drove in two runs with a single and a triple for Wentworth. Beaudoin had an RBI single for the Terriers.

So. Maine sweeps Salem State

At Salem, Mass., Melissa Henderson pitched a one-hit shutout in the opener and Caterina Riitano fired a two-hit shutout in the second game ast the Huskies swept the Vikings by scores of 4-0 and 8-0.

In Game 1, Kim Lipman doubled and singled with an RBI to pace Southern Maine. Danica Martin, Katie Mainville and Riitano hit two singles apiece.

Henderson struck out nine and walked two.

In Game 2, the Huskies collected 15 hits, including a triple, a double and a single (2 RBIs) by Riitano. She struck out four.

Laura Pratt tripled and singled (two RBIs), while Christen Lachapelle and Evon Hudspeth each singled twice with two RBIs.

At Salem, Mass., Tip Fairchild stroked a home run, two doubles and a single with two RBIs to power the Huskies to victory.

Nick Vardaro tripled and singled for Southern Maine, while Ryan Bourque (two RBIs) and Brandon Brewer each singled twice. Kyle Fecteau scattered six hits in eight innings to earn the win.

Jason Sabione rapped two doubles and a single for Salem State.
