ATV education, hunter safety courses scheduled

As the weather warms and outdoor recreation opportunities increase, it’s a good time to start thinking about attending one of the state-sponsored safety courses.

Among the safety courses on tap in the near future:

ATV Education courses:

. In Caswell, at Caswell School, April 26 and 28 from 6-9 p.m., call Sheila Caldwell at 325-4611.

. In East Millinocket, at Schenck High School (a combination ATV and snowmobile course) on April 25-27 from 6-9 p.m., call Ralph Sprague Jr. at 746-9422.

. In Old Town, at American Legion Post 75 on May 4-5 from 6-9 p.m., call Woody Thompson at 876-3497.

Hunter safety courses:

. In Dexter, at Dexter High School, May 9-12 from 6-9 p.m., call Woody Thompson at 876-3497.

. In Dover-Foxcroft, at SeDoMoCha Middle School, April 25-28 from 6-9 p.m., call Woody Thompson at 876-3497 or Lorrette Nuite at 564-6525.

Bowhunter education courses:

. In Brewer, at Penobscot County Conservation Association, May 14 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and May 15 from 9-2 p.m., call Woody Thompson at 876-3497.

. In Northport, at the Outdoor Sportsman, May 21-22 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., call Charlie Herrick at 338-4141.

MBA banquet tonight

The Maine Bowhunters Association will hold its annual banquet today from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The banquet is being held at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer, and tickets are available for $25 each.

Safari Club International will be on hand to collect food donations for the Hunters for the Hungry program. Game meat must be properly marked, and coolers will be available to protect the donated meat.

Souadabscook race set Sunday

The Souadabscook Stream Race has been rescheduled for Sunday with an 11 a.m. start in Hampden.

The eight-mile race was originally scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed because of high water level. Race-day registration is 9-10:30 a.m. at the Emerson Mill Grange. Those seeking more information may contact Leslie Winchester-Mabee at 942-0601.
