STANDISH – Miles Johnson pitched a one-hitter, but teammate Matt Vasil followed with a no-hitter to lead the Saint Joseph’s College Monks to a Friday baseball doubleheader sweep of the University of Maine-Presque Isle.
Johnson struck out eight and Andy Exley hit a solo homer as the Monks earned a 6-0 win in the first game, and Vasil notched 11 strikeouts to win the second game 13-0.
In the first game, Andy Exley went 4-for-4 with four singles and drove in a run for Saint Joseph’s. Charlie Furbush had two singles and two RBIs. Chris Saucier singled for the Owls.
In the second game, Exley singled twice to drive in two runs. Derek McIntosh hit a homer and had two RBIs.
Trinity 12, Colby 2
At Hartford, Conn., Greg Tapley surrendered just one run over seven innings and the Bantams pounded out 18 hits in the win over Colby of Waterville.
Andrew Fries reached base safely in all five plate appearances for Trinity, ranked fourth in the nation. He singled twice, hit an RBI double, and scored a pair of runs. Ben Silvanic had two singles and three RBIs and scored three runs.
Nick Spillane had a double and single for the White Mules, and Roddy Ames added two singles.

Saint Joseph’s sweeps Husson
At Standish, the Monks plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Eagles 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. Saint Joseph’s won the second game 10-2.
In the first game, Tessa Grindle singled and drove in two runs for Saint Joseph’s, while Deb Drown hit two singles. Kahler Dowling tossed a four-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.
Husson scored two runs in the sixth on a Shawna Bell RBI double and a Nicole Munroe RBI single. Carolyn McAvoy singled twice.
In the second game, Leanne Morton hit a double and Megan Farrell singled and doubled as they each knocked in three runs for the Monks. Drown hit three singles and Amanda Roy had two singles and two RBIs.
McAvoy doubled for the Eagles, and Rachel Wing had an RBI single.

UM-Farmington sweeps UMPI
At Farmington, Lauren Stacy and Stephanie Moriarty each earned a shutout win as the Beavers blanked the Owls 10-0 and 9-0 in a doubleheader.
In the first game, Megan Goodrow hit two singles and drove in two runs for UMF. Kristi Cochin doubled and singled as the Beavers outhit UM-Presque Isle 22-7 in the two games. Jody Kinney led the Owls with two singles.
In the second game, Mary Berry smacked a three-run homer in the sixth. Moriarty had eight strikeouts in five innings of work. Cochin hit four singles and drove in a run, while Megan McCrum hit a two-run single. Brandi Rideout, Renee Trafton, and Holly Tripp each hit a double.
Scarlet McAvoy, Morgan Anderson, and Mariah Holmes each singled for UMPI.
