PRESQUE ISLE – Aroostook County residents searching for signs of spring found examples in and outside of The Presque Isle Forum this weekend, as hundreds of people flocked to the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club’s 22nd annual Home, Garden and Recreation Show.
The sunny weather seemed to add to the temptation to buy some of the merchandise at the show, which featured everything from flowers and campers to boats and home decor.
“We’ve had a mixture of people browsing and buying today,” vendor Paula Reynolds said Saturday. The Presque Isle resident was busy showcasing items from her business, Crafts by Paula.
She said it was the first time that she and her husband, Stephen, had chosen to set up shop at the show, although they have been operating since 1982.
“We’ve had some people request special orders today, which has been nice,” Reynolds said.
Traffic was heavy inside The Forum, as visitors strolled through the building looking at rows of brand new boats and farm equipment, and peeked inside the various recreational vehicles that lined the back of the showroom.
Announcers peddling door prizes beckoned to spectators, while children sampled popcorn and tugged balloons while trailing their parents.
Encompassed by shoppers admiring the candles, pictures and flowers that were featured at her Home Interiors booth, Presque Isle resident Loretta Donovan said she was happy with what she saw.
“There have been a lot of people coming by, so I have stayed busy,” she said, watching as shoppers picked up various decorations from her tables. “Sales have been good today.”
The show wrapped up on Sunday afternoon.
