CONCORD, N.H. – A Maine man wanted in New Hampshire on multiple rape charges was arrested Tuesday at a construction site in Georgia.
Bruce Tuttle, 57, is charged with repeatedly assaulting at least two girls under age 13 between 1997 and 2002 in Rochester and Strafford. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
Tuttle waived extradition Tuesday at a hearing in Georgia and could be returned to New Hampshire soon.
Authorities began searching for Tuttle, most recently of Farmingdale, Maine, after he missed a March 21 arraignment. At the time, authorities said he took a bus from Barnstable, Mass., headed for Virginia Beach, Va.
On Tuesday, officials said that while on the run, Tuttle called himself Donald Hoyt, the name of his dead brother-in-law. They said he also changed his appearance.
Tuttle spent several weeks living with a family in Georgia who had given him a ride when he was hitchhiking, authorities said. Officials said the family did not know he was wanted by police.
